Second Effort keeps a youth hockey team's game records for its coaches. This page says, in plain words, what is kept, who can see it, how long it stays, and how to have it removed.
Who we are
Second Effort LLC, a New York company, runs the Second Effort coach dashboard, the bench app and the Practice Builder at secondeffort.app. Questions about this page: hello@secondeffort.app.
What a team puts in
- The roster: each player's first and last name, jersey number and position, and whether the player is active, injured or has left. Never a birth date, a home address, a photo or a school.
- Game records: shots, goals, faceoffs, penalties, shifts and the like, as tapped on the bench app or read from a game sheet, video stats or a wearable feed the team connects.
- Coaching notes: lines, practice plans, monthly report cards, development notes and "the little things". These are the coaches' own words about players.
- The staff list: the email address and name of each coach, manager or helper the team's admin lets in, and the role each has.
- The team's own details: name, level, type (girls, boys or co-ed), colours, a badge if one is uploaded, the rink and schedule.
What the apps record on their own
- Sign-in: the email address a coach signs in with. Sign-in is Google's (Sign in with Google or an emailed link). Second Effort never sees or stores a password.
- Page opens: which page was opened, on which team, by which role, at most once per page every ten minutes per device. No names, no third-party tracker, no advertising.
- Page errors: when a page breaks, the page, the message and the app version, so a fix can follow. Nothing personal.
- A record of changes: who changed a game record or a setting and when, so corrections can be traced. The game record itself is never edited in place; a correction is a new entry.
Who can see it
- The team's staff, by the role the team's admin gives: coaches see everything for their team; a manager sees names and the schedule; a game-day helper sees only the game being tapped.
- A club's admin sees the club's teams.
- The two owners of Second Effort, when giving support or keeping the service running, and only for that.
- No one else. Each team's rows are walled off from every other team's in the database itself.
Where it lives
On Google Cloud in the United States (the us-east1 region), with encrypted connections, nightly backups and weekly exports kept for the team. Email to coaches is sent through a transactional email provider; the provider sees the address and the message, nothing else.
How long it stays
- During a season pass (Aug 1 to Jul 31, including the off-season): everything stays, readable and editable by the team.
- If a pass is not renewed by Jul 31: the team's records stay readable until Sep 30, so an August season report can still be made. Then Second Effort sends the team's admin one export (a spreadsheet and the PDFs) and removes the team's data. A team may instead keep its past seasons readable on a small "keep it readable" plan.
- A 10-day playground (the try-it copy) holds only made-up players. It is removed at its close, and only the sign-up record (name, email, team name, consent) is kept.
- Opponents: opposing teams are named as teams. Opposing players appear only as a jersey number from a game sheet, never by name, and those lines go when the season's data goes.
Your choices
- A team's admin can remove a player from the roster at any time, and can ask for the team's data to be exported or removed entirely: hello@secondeffort.app. Removal is done within 30 days and confirmed by email.
- A parent or guardian who wants a player's record removed can write to the same address; Second Effort will confirm the request with the team's admin and act on it.
- Emails about a playground or a season (the welcome, a check-in, a renewal note) can be stopped by replying "no thanks".
